In the state of Arizona, robbery is a serious offense and a violent crime. Robbery is not the same as theft because it involves an act or threat of violence. The Ramos Law Firm routinely defends the rights of individuals who are facing robbery charges.

Classifications of Robbery

Arizona law has the following three classifications of robbery:

Robbery (ARS §13-1902) is the taking of another person's persons property against his or her will that involves the use of force or threats of violence to convince the victim to surrender the property. Robbery is a Class 4 felony.

Aggravated Robbery (ARS. §13-1903) is a more serious offense than robbery and it occurs when a defendant has an accomplice present during the criminal act. Aggravated robbery is a Class 3 felony.

Armed Robbery (ARS §13-1904) will be charged if the defendant or an accomplice is either armed with a deadly weapon or a simulated deadly weapon during the crime, or if the either party uses or threatens to use a deadly weapon, simulated deadly weapon or dangerous instrument. A simulated deadly weapon can even be a toy gun. Armed robbery is a Class 2 felony.

Penalties: If you are convicted for robbery, aggravated robbery, or armed robbery you face the potential of imprisonment. There are numerous factors that will determine the length of a jail sentence including your prior conviction history, mitigating and aggravating factors and enhancement statutes.

How the Ramos Law Firm Can Defend Your Robbery Charges

Because of the violent nature of robbery offense, prosecutors will vigorously pursue charges and prison sentences. In Arizona, robbery charges also carry a “presumptive sentence” which is typically between the minimum and maximum sentences. If there are aggravating factors, the sentence will be increased.
